Built in 1845, the Augusta Canal is a testament to the men, women, children, and animals who labored on and along the canal. Nineteenth century technology was limited. Great works were wrought on the backs of man and beast. Their hard work and perseverance ensured the city’s success as a center of commerce.
Today, the Augusta Canal is preserved as a National Heritage Area. The original towpath, where countless mules towed heavy barges along the canal, has been immortalized as part of the Augusta Canal Trail System.
My proposal is to bring the past alive by placing a life-sized sculpture of a mule and driver on the Towpath Trail.
In order to demonstrate how the sculpture will look, I need to create a scale model.
